Alternate Initiative

OK, this is kinda out of left field, by it's a personal interest of mine based on an idea that I read about somewhere online. Perhaps it should be an extension?

Basically, C&C uses the old 'roll initiative' then cycle through the results to the end of the 10 second round. Repeat until combat is over.

The new idea (well, new for C&C - I'm sure other systems have done something like this) eliminates combat rounds entirely, replacing them with a counter that simply counts up from 0 at the beginning of combat, and continues ad infinitum until the combat is over.

Each character's action occurs in ascending order based on their current INIT. INIT rolls are either a 1d10 for fast actions, or 2D10 for slow actions, subtracting their DEX bonus.

When the counter reaches a character's INIT value, their stated action occurs (attack the orc, pick up the gem, etc.), then they specify a new action and roll a new INI, which gets *added* to their last INIT value. The result is that each combatant's INIT becomes a rolling, ever ascending number as actions are specified and taken... and counter just counts up and up, with combatants' actions continually 'bubbling up to the top.'

There is a bit more to it, like changing your mind on your action before it occurs, applying effects, etc, but that's the basic idea. I think every 20 iterations of the counter is about 10 seconds, so you can account for things like how long a spell lasts... so effects would have their own 'INIT' value and would occur or expire based on that number.

I'm guessing that the round counter would become the ascending counter, and the sort order of combatants would be reversed.

I'm thinking there would need to be an "Action Menu" that listed common actions and their associated INIT dice - the player could just drag this to the CT to both roll the INIT dice and enter the text description of their action there. For unlisted actions, maybe there could be a generic text entry and a slow and fast die icon. Blah blah blah.

Sound like fun to anyone?

Sure does sound like fun... but I think getting players to be able to make their own initiative rolls again from the character sheet would be a better start! Just saying... :)

That will hopefully get some attention soon. It's frankly a bit beyond me, but I think some help will be on the way and I'm hoping the next beta release has some big problems resolved.

Unfortunately I think it is a complete re-write to get that working with 2.9.2 ....
I have had a look and I am clueless as to how to do it.
